Cable power: 11kW cables are not a common charging power in the UK. This is because an 11kW cable is limited to 3kW on almost all domestic charge points due to the single phase nature of our home electricity supplies. We would usually recommend either a 7kW or 22kW for most UK consumers.  Always check with customer if the charge point you will regularly use is able to supply 11kW. The order will be on hold until we hear back from customer.



The reason why a 11kw 3 phase cable is not ideal for home charging is because a 11kW 3 phase cable charges slowly at home as the big majority of homes in the UK use a single-phase supply, meaning the cable only utilizes one of its three wires instead of all three. A 3 phase, 11kW charger needs a 3 phase grid connection to reach full speed, which is not compatible with most of UK homes which then makes the cable behave as a slow, single-phase cable.

So if you are mainly going to be charging your car at home and you would like a fast charging cable, you would be better off by having a single 32A / 7.4kW phase cable that will charge your car at the right speed and behave as it should behave.

However, if you are going to charge from a charging unit that supplies a 3 phase connection, then you should be fine. Normally public chargers, workplaces, etc, are 3 phase.
